So let's get started...
What is CBD and CBD Oil?
CBD, or cannabidiol, is a substance that is extracted from the hemp plant.
Hemp is a special type of cannabis plant that contains very little of the illegal psychoactive substance found within the cannabis plant (THC), which gets users intoxicated / high and can therefore be legally grown under license.
Historically hemp was used in industry and agriculture for everything from the manufacture of rope to production of cooking oil.
The CBD within hemp is also present within regular cannabis and medical marijuana. When you hear about people using cannabis or medical marijuana as a medicine, it is the CBD component that is delivering most of those health benefits, not the intoxicating, psychoactive THC part.
Because the CBD found within hemp and marijuana is not intoxicating, it is also perfectly legal when extracted from legally grown hemp.
So that’s CBD, but what exactly is CBD Oil? Well, CBD Oil is a manufactured product whereby the CBD is extracted from the Hemp plant via multiple means, this can range from alcohol / chemical extractions to supercritical co2 extraction. The extracted CBD is then dissolved into a carrier oil so that it’s easy to bottle, store, and for people to then use.
Typically, the carrier oil is either regular hemp seed oil, olive oil, or MCT oil. At Seropian, all of our CBD is dissolved into MCT Oil as we feel the natural properties of both products compliment each other perfectly, MCT also produces the best tasting finished product and preserves CBD better than other oils.
What are the benefits of Seropian CBD Oil?
CBD suppliers and not allowed to market CBD as a medicine because it hasn’t been licensed as such in the UK or the EU, so typically CBD Oil is sold only as a food supplement.
What we can say is that it has nearly all the many benefits of medical marijuana and yet it’s perfectly legal and non-intoxicating.
In addition to this, most people say that they experience a great calmness, improved sleep and a general boost to their wellbeing when taking CBD regularly.
We recommend that people considering taking CBD, should do their own research online to see if it might help their own particular needs and to answer any questions they may have in this regard.
It’s rapidly growing popularity and profile are clearly a great testament to its effectiveness for many people.
How do I take Seropian CBD Oil?
Seropian CBD Oil is taken by placing the recommended dose of drops under your tongue and holding them there for at least 60 seconds, and then swallowing.
This holding under the tongue is called “sublingual dosing”.
The main reason for doing this is because the oral absorption of CBD (via the stomach) is relatively poor – only around 20% of the CBD consumed this way will be absorbed. Therefore, if you took a dose of 20mg by simply swallowing the oil, you may only get 4mg into the blood stream, proving somewhat wasteful.
However, if you first hold the CBD Oil under the tongue for a short period of time, then the CBD starts to absorb through the thin tissues there and directly into the bloodstream.
This is a highly efficient way of taking the CBD. After 60 seconds (or longer if you wish) you can swallow the CBD oil to try and get as much of the remaining CBD as possible, although most will have been absorbed by then.
What dose should I take?
We recommend beginning with taking 1 to 3 drops, 2 to 3 times a day. Continue with this for a week, beyond this point you can increase the dose gradually to reach your desired effect.
The maximum recommended dose is 200mg per day. For example, this would be 1/5th of a 1000mg/10% strength 10ml bottle.
CBD doses vary from person to person, some users see results from a low dose, whilst other may require a larger dose to reach their desired effect.
Consistency is key, try to space your dose across the day.
What should I look out for when choosing a CBD brand?
Never buy products that cannot be backed up by an independent third party laboratory certificate. Some CBD Oil on the market, in particular some full spectrum CBD Oils can often be illegal without anyone realising – for example some products may contain CBN which is a Class B substance.
There is a lot of confusion in the marketplace, much of it from suppliers, about what constitutes a quality, safe and legal CBD Oil.
Firstly there is much confusion around the strength of CBD oils.
Watch out for brands that are falsely representing the content of their products, for example, a 30ml bottle containing 3000mg of CBD is actually only 1000mg per 10ml and therefore contains no more CBD than that of 1000mg of 10ml, but often can be over double the price.
Our Seropian Premium CBD range contains only CBD dissolved into MCT oil and nothing else.
Our Seropian Full Spectrum CBD range contains CBD alongside various cannabinoids and terpenes found within the hemp plant, all of which are legal and add up to produce what is called the "entourage effect".
